San Francisco’s Union Square is one of the most popular tourist areas of San Francisco. If you’re looking to stay at a hotel in the Union Square area and will be bidding on a hotel via Priceline, here is some tips to help you identify your San Francisco hotel.
Priceline Bidding Zones in Union Square
The 2 “Union Square” bidding zones on Priceline are: Union Square East and Union Square West – Nob Hill. If you’re looking for a hotel in the area, I would also consider bidding in the SOMA – Moscone Center zone as well. It’s a bit further away but if you don’t mind a 5 minute walk to Union Square, you can find a really good deal.
Union Square East: This is the preferred bidding zone if you’re wanting to stay as close as possible to Union Square. Accessible from the San Francisco Airport via the BART (Powell Street Station), this area is really easy to get to by public transit. On the negative side, some of the hotels are located right on Powell Street, the main cable car line which can be noisy if you’re looking to sleep in. Hotels in this bidding zone that are known to be on Priceline, as reported by members of the Priceline Forum, include:
- Grand Hyatt San Francisco – 4 stars
- The Westin St. Francis – 4 stars
- Chancellor Hotel – 3 1/2 stars
- Hotel Triton – a Kimpton Hotel – 3 1/2 stars
- Sir Francis Drake Hotel – 3 1/2 stars
- Executive Hotel Vintage Court 3 stars
Union Square West – Nob Hill: This bidding zone on Priceline is quite large, extending from Market Street all the way to California Street, about 3/4 of a mile away. It also borders on the less desired area of San Francisco – the Tenderloin District. Having said that, if you don’t mind ending up as far north as California Street and being adjacent to a somewhat rougher neighborhood, this area has the best deals and greatest selection of hotels. Here are the hotels known to be on Priceline in this zone:
- Clift Hotel San Francisco – 4 stars
- Hilton San Francisco – 4 stars
- Hotel Monaco – 4 stars
- Parc 55 Wyndham – 4 stars (comes up VERY OFTEN on Priceline, and quite often in the $80 to $90 range)
- Hotel Rex – 3 stars
- Serrano Hotel – 3 stars
- Warwick San Francisco – 3 stars
SOMA – Moscone Center: Technically not part of Union Square in San Francisco, this bidding zone deserves a mention. Why? Because it is just a block or 2 away (depending on which hotel), but also because there are some great high end hotels that are sometimes too good a deal to resist. In other words, the distance away from Union Square may be worth the savings. Here are some of the hotels available on Priceline in this bidding zone.
- Hotel PaloMarch – 4 stars
- InterContinental San Francisco – 4 stars (Nice swimming pool, very close to Market & Powell in the heart of Union Square
- Palace Hotel – 4 stars
- Marriott Marquis – 4 stars (I’ve personally won this hotel on Priceline for $81 per night — hard to resist prices like this)
- Westin Market Street – 4 stars
